The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) released 10,000 vouchers to deserving students aged between 5 and 16 years in 28 different districts of the province to provide them the opportunity of gratis education under the foundation’s Education Voucher Scheme (EVS).
Punjab Education Foundation Chairman Raja Anwar stated this while talking to a 20-member delegation of EVS beneficiary students and their parents at his office.
While talking to the delegation, Anwar said that the scheme was launched in 2006 with the aim of benefitting children belonging to less affluent and underprivileged areas who could not get an education otherwise, due to financial and social constraints. He said that this scheme received tremendous response due to its beneficial effect on the society’s poor segments.
“EVS employs innovative techniques to increase enrollment and enhance quality of education,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that now the total number of EVS beneficiaries had reached 150,000 students in 36 districts of Punjab. He added that the EVS had emerged as a ray of hope for the hopeless because of its effectiveness in redressing the educational problems of the poor strata.
At the occasion, the delegation’s members thanked Anwar for providing free education to the deserving students through the EVS.
