LHC CJ seeks report on ‘custodial killing’

The Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice on Saturday directed the Lahore district and session judge to submit a report within three days regarding a probe by the judicial magistrate in the death of an accused in the custody of the Raiwind Police.

The LHC Complaint Cell had taken notice of news published in a local newspaper regarding the killing of 42-year-old Nadeem Ahmad due to physical torture by the Raiwind Police.

The DSJ had reported that Nadeem and four other accused were arrested by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Aslam for gambling and a sum of Rs 4,300 was also recovered from them.

He said a criminal case was registered against them.

During over-night custody, Nadeem got ill and was shifted to Civil Hospital Raiwind by the ASI.

After check up he was referred to Jinnah Hospital, Lahore where he expired after a few hours.

During his treatment at Jinnah Hospital, his relatives were also present there.

The post mortem report revealed that there was no mark of violence on his body at the time of autopsy.

Moreover a specimen had been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis to determine the cause of death.

The complaint cell directed the DSJ Lahore to ensure compliance of the orders of LHC CJ regarding the submission of a fresh report along with the findings of the JM within three days.
