A prominent cleric, Yaqoob Qadri was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Nawabshah on Friday. Panic and tension gripped the adjacent areas following the assassination.
The police stated that two motorbike riding attackers opened fire at the cleric in Mohni Bazaar area of the city and escaped, leaving the religious leader injured seriously.
Yaqoob Qadri was rushed to PeoplesMedicalCenter immediately but succumbed to his injuries during treatment at said institute. Following the incident, armed militiamen opened fire in different parts of the city and forcefully closed shops and marketsin reply to the killing.
The deceased religious leader’s funeral prayer will be offered at Police Ground in Nawabshah. Numerous religious organizations have condemned the slaying of Yaqoob Qadri.
