Around 311 multi-storied buildings have been declared unsafe in case of fire and their owners have been issued notices to make fire safety measures and construct emergency exits till August 10.

On the directives of the District Coordination Officer (DCO), a three-member committee conducted a detailed survey of the buildings and reported that the buildings lack adequate fire safety measures. Owners of the buildings have been warned that if they failed to comply with the orders till the end of deadline, a crackdown would be launched against them after Eid-ul-Fitr and their cases would be sent to the court of Judicial Magistrate.

Acting on the orders of the Punjab government, District and Sessions Judge Syed Maroof Ahmed Ali has nominated a magistrate for the purpose who will be authorised to impose six month imprisonment or Rs 25,000 to Rs50,000 fine or both on the owners in case of challan under Civil Defence Rules-9.

Teams have been formed to launch the crackdown from August 15.
