With the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Fakharuddin G Ebrahim already having resigned from his post, ECP Secretary Ishtiak Ahmad Khan had also decided to resign from his office, sources in the ECP claimed.
The sources said the ECP secretary had decided to resign from his post, but he had a lot of pressure from the ECP members for not tendering his resignation.
“The CEC has already resigned, but his resignation hasn’t been accepted so far. The government wants the CEC to remain in the office till by-polls that are scheduled to be held on 22nd, but the CEC is not willing to re-join his office”, the sources said.
There were severe differences among the high officials of the elections commission, the sources added.
