Senators belonging to the Awami National Party (ANP) on Friday submitted an adjournment motion in the Senate’s Secretariat demanding the House to launch a debate on the Dera Ismil Khan jailbreak and the negligence by the law enforcement and security agencies.

The adjournment motion was filed by ANP central spokesman, Senator Zahid Khan, demanding the House adjourn the normal proceedings and launch a debate on the DI Khan jailbreak.

It was mentioned in the draft that 242 prisoners had escaped when terrorists hit the jail, during which 12 civilians including prisoners and the five policemen were killed.

The motion also demanded a debate on the intentional negligence by the police, law enforcement and the security agencies during the terror bid.

Later, Zahid Khan, who was flanked by Senator Shahi Syed, told reporters that at the time of the attack, the policemen guarding the prison fled.

Khan said it was not the first time that this had happened, adding that earlier in Swat the police fled rather than defending the lives of the civilians.

The ANP leader was of the view that the wave of fear had gripped entire DI Khan.

“It was unfortunate that neither of the federal or any of the provincial governments had condemned the incident and the media also avoided giving the attack its due coverage,” Khan said, adding that, “The government should let parliament know what has been done to maintain the law and order, as its at its worst at the moment.”
