ANP leader’s house attacked in Khyber

Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Agency President Shah Hussain Shinwari and his family members survived an attack in Khogakhel in the Landi Kotal area of Khyber Agency late on Thursday night.

Reports from Landi Kotal, a town bordering Afghanistan, said a group of militants on motorbikes attacked Shinwari’s residence with two bombs and several hand grenades.

An official said four cars parked inside Shinwari’s hujra (guest house) were badly damaged.

A portion of the hujra also collapsed.

The official confirmed that Shinwari had been receiving threats.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack but officials and ANP leaders suspect Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militants were involved in the attack.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) information minister and ANP leader, has expressed concern over the attack.

He said the government needs to take early steps for ensuring the safety of not only ANP leaders but of people throughout KP and the adjacent tribal areas.
