At least eight people were killed and several others injured by flashfloods and heavy downpour across the country on Friday.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, flashfloods caused by heavy rain wreaked havoc in Bagh district.
The torrents washed away a car crossing a causeway in Bagh, killing three people, while another man drowned in a nearby village.
Two youth reportedly drowned in flood water in village Hajeera near Rawlakot and rescue teams were busy looking for bodies.
In Chitral, two people were killed in flood and rain-related incidents that also damaged 120 houses and six bridges in the area.
The water flow in ChitralRiver was recorded at 50,000 cubic feet per second. The water current will reach Warsak Dam Peshawar at 10pm on Friday, PDMA officials said.
At least 60 houses and 15 shops were completely washed away on Friday, while 120 houses were partially destroyed.
Heavy rain also damaged the Raishoon powerhouse and clean drinking water and power supply to the area was suspended. Two bridges and the Chitral Booni Road were also destroyed.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority to cooperate with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for providing relief to the flood-hit people in Chitral.
The rain is expected to continue tomorrow in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Balochistan, heavy rain flooded TaliRiver and NariRiver, while the Sibi-Tali Road was also damaged and closed for traffic.
Flooding in Telli‚ Sultankot‚ Khomachi and Chachar areas of Sibi district brought out flood warnings to residents, while the road link between Sibi and Telli has been cut-off after a heavy flood peak in Telli canal.
The Sibi deputy commissioner said a high alert had been issued to the local population in view of possible floods.
The MET department has forecast more rain in Naseerabad and Kalat division for today, whereas people have been warned against possible overflowing of rivers in Bolan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Sibi, Loralai, Barkhan, Musakhel, Jhal Magsi and Khuzdar.
People in Islamabad and parts of Punjab including Lahore and Faisalabad also experienced heavy downpour throughout the day. Some parts of Karachi also received mild showers.
In Lahore, heavy rain flooded several low-lying areas, while multiple feeders tripped and interrupted power supply throughout Friday.
In Peshawar, at least four people were injured and around a dozen houses collapsed due to torrential rain. The heavy showers flooded canals in the provincial capital and its adjoining areas.
It is the 4th consecutive year since 2010 when Pakistan is suffering flash floods after torrential rains up North and millions of cusec feet of water is wasted into the sea after destroying lives & property of the people.
This water could been brought to use in electricity production and watering the crops of Pakistan had there been mega dams in those areas.
It is high time to snub the racist vested interests and start construction of Kalabagh, Diamer Bhasha, Bunji and other mega dams.
