2 policemen, IB official killed in Peshawar

Three people – two policemen and an officer of an intelligence agency – fell prey to targeted killing in Peshawar late on Thursday night.

An official said unidentified militants intercepted Daudzai SHO’s vehicle on Haryana Road when he was on way home late on Thursday. The militants opened indiscriminate firing on the vehicle, killing SHO Amir Sultan and his bodyguard on the spot. The driver and another policeman were injured in the attack.

The official said the area was cordoned off soon after the attack. However, he added the assailants succeeded in fleeing.

A search operation in the area was conducted and several suspects were arrested.

Earlier, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Inspector Mazhar Ali was shot dead by unidentified men outside his house in Sarki Gate soon after iftar on Thursday. The official said two motorcyclists opened fire on Ali, killing him on the spot.

Ali became the third IB officer who was targeted by militants in Peshawar.

Frequent targeted killing of officials of the law enforcement agencies have resulted in unrest among the officials of almost all agencies. Senior officials have directed them to remain on high alert.
