Normalcy returns to DI Khan as curfew lifted

Life returned to normalcy after the curfew in Dera Ismail (DI) Khan and Tank was lifted following Tuesday’s attack on the central prison.
The curfew was lifted after 48 hours at 6am on Thursday. People were seen buying daily-use items from markets as soon as the shops and bazaars were opened. Hustle and bustle returned to the area’s business centre and markets for the upcoming Eid festivities.
During the curfew the security forces carried out search operations in several areas to capture the escaped prisoners and militants but no arrest was reported.
A shortage of edible items was reported in the area as locals were forced to stay in houses during the curfew.
Militants freed nearly 175 inmates including 35 high-profile militants during a blatant overnight attack on DI Khan’s central jail, officials said.
At least nine people, including four policemen and five militants, were killed in the attack and the subsequent shootout.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government commissioned an inquiry into the attack.
A committee comprising of KP Board of Revenue Member Waqar Ayub, KP Home and Tribal Affairs Department Special Secretary Syed Alamgir Shah, Police (Special Branch)Additional Inspector General Syed Akhtar Ali Shah and a Pakistan Army (Headquarters 11 Corps) representative was set up to unearth the facts leading to the incident and to identify the individuals responsible for it.
