Hughie Fury (8-0) is down to fight Bulwell’s former British cruiserweight champion Shane ‘Mr Block’ McPhilbin (8-7-1) at the Magna Centre, Rotherham on September 14.
The fight has been added to the bill-topping vacant British super bantamweight clash between Sheffield’s Kid Galahad (14-0) and James ‘Jazza’ Dickens (12-0) from Liverpool, and will be shown on terrestrial TV station Channel 5.
Fury, who outpointed game Ugandan Moses Motuvu two weeks ago in Milton Keynes, will be aiming to move to nine unbeaten, having begun his professional career just five months ago in March. McPhilbin will be the first British fighter Fury has faced.
Profilic news site World Boxing News is reporting constant speculation about who Hughie will fight on the David Have v Tyson Fury undercard two weeks later. Hughie’s father and trainer, Peter, has been trying to get a big name.
So far, reported offers to David Price conqueror Tony ‘The Tiger’ Thompson (38-3) and Polish former world title challenger Andrzej Wawrzyk (27-1) have been turned down straight away, with Thompson stating on Twitter:
“What do I have to gain fighting someone younger then a daughter and probably fights worst then she does”
Hughie is currently helping cousin Tyson prepare for his clash with David Haye in a training camp in Belgium.
