Nearly on the edge! Lady Gaga speaks about her ordeal

She was forced to cancel a string of shows on her Born This Way tour to undergo delicate hip surgery.
And Lady GaGa admits the injury that prompted her to pull out of 25 sold-out gigs and go under the knife was so serious she almost needed hip replacement.
Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily, the 27-year-old singer says the injury left coin shaped holes in her legs. ‘When we got all the MRI’s finished before I went to surgery there were giant craters, a hole in my hip the size of a quarter, and the cartilage was just hanging out the other side of my hip,’ she revealed.
GaGa underwent surgery in February, after which she cut a typically outlandish figure in a string of garish wheelchairs – amongst them a gold plated number and a custom made wheelchair from designer Louis Vuitton.
But while she’s back on her feet and preparing for the release of her new album, the hit-maker says the outcome would have been much worse had she continued with the tour. ‘I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage,’ she said. ‘The surgeon told me that if I had done another show I might have needed a full hip replacement. I would have been out for at least a year, maybe longer.’ GaGa is now looking ahead to the release of ARTPOP – her third album – and she admits her long lay-off gave her plenty of time to focus on her new music.
I had six months to beef up my brain and body,’ she said. ‘I got to put a giant white or black sheet of paint over my whole canvas and I got to review ARTPOP again. I was given the time to really be creative because it’s a gazing process, it really is. ‘I have to gaze into the work for long periods of time for it to be good.’
