ECP rubbishes Imran Khan’s allegation

Forms special wing for local bodies elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s allegation that the May11 general elections were the “most rigged” elections in the history of Pakistan as baseless and unwarranted.

An ECP official said Khan was given access to the polling record of NA-122 because of a petition filed by him.

Meanwhile, following the Supreme Court’s orders, the ECP has established a special wing for the upcoming local bodies (LB) elections and four grade-17 officers would be part of the special setup.

The ECP has also issued a notification in this regard.

According to the notification, the newly-established wing would be responsible to coordinate with the four provinces to hold the LB elections on time.

On July 18, the ECP dispatched letters to the provinces with instructions on holding the LB elections.

The letters instructed the provinces to formulate a uniform legislation for the LB elections besides maintaining similarity in the mechanism adopted for the purpose, to ensure the elections be held simultaneously across the country.
