The government on Wednesday instructed cellular services operators to suspend services in various cities of the country, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, Multan and Sialkot, as part of security arrangements for Youm-e-Ali (RA).
The services remained suspended in Lahore between 4am and 8pm, Rawalpindi 4am and 6pm, Gujranwala 3am and 1am and in Sargodha from 2pm and 4pm.
The cellular services were also jammed in Jhang, Sialkot and other cites.
Foolproof security arrangements were made on the occasion of Youm-e Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (RA) as large rallies were taken out and procession and gatherings were organised across the country.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) sources said the government directed suspending the cellular phone services temporarily in various cities.
The PTA said that the service remained close until culmination of mourning processions across the country.
Cellular services in major cities of Sindh also reportedly remained suspended as part of security measures.
