Subsidised power tariff for the poor: minister

Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has said that government will introduce subsidised tariff for electricity users consuming up to 250 units per month to provide relief to the poor.

In an interview, the minister informed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be announcing the energy policy very soon. He said that the government’s priority was to end power pilferage and ensure smooth power supply to the public. “The prime minister will soon inaugurate a new 5,000-Megawatt electricity project in Gadani,” he added.

Furthermore, he stated that the government will not tolerate any institutional corruption while operation against power thieves will be accelerated. He claimed that 70 percent crisis would be overcome if government is able to minimise line losses.
