Transparent elections held democratically for the first time in the history of Pakistan: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Fakhruddin G Ibrahim said on Tuesday that transparent elections were held in a democratic manner for the first time in the history of Pakistan.

It may be recalled that earlier in May 2013, while announcing the first official result of the general elections, the CEC had told the media that he had given a “gift of fair elections to the nation”.

MAMNOON VICTORIUS:

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday to announce the victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate Mamnoon Hussain in the presidential polls, the CEC said no one should boycott the polls.

He said Hussain secured 432 votes from the parliament and provincial assemblies while his opponent, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Justice (r) Wajihuddin Ahmed secured 77 votes.

Hussain clinched 277 votes from the parliament, 54.14 from the Punjab Assembly (PA), 24.76 from the Sindh Assembly (SA), 21.49 from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly (KPA) and 55 votes from the Balochistan Assembly (BA).

Wajihuddin secured 34 votes from the parliament, four from the PA, 1.9 from the SA, 36.17 from the KPA and one vote from the BA.
