Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) on Monday condemned the latest US drone strike that took place in North Waziristan on Sunday.

At least six people were killed as a drone fired two missiles which targeted a house near Shawal.

An FO statement said that drone strikes were a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that Pakistan had repeatedly emphasized the importance of bringing an immediate end to these attacks.

“The government has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive, entail the loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications”, the statement said.

It further said that the attacks had a negative impact on the “mutual desire” of both countries to forge “a cordial and cooperative relationship and to ensure peace and stability in the region”.

Sunday’s strike came at time when US Secretary of State John Kerry was set to arrive in Islamabad. The drone issue was expected to be on top of Pakistan’s agenda in the negotiations with the US officials.
