Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) presidential candidate Justice (r) Wajih-ud-Din Ahmed on Monday visited Lal Haveli and held discussions with Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on matters pertaining to presidential election, scheduled for today.
Addressing a news conference at AML’s Public Secretariat, Wajih-ud-Din appreciated the political acumen of Sheikh Rashid and said that PTI wanted to take its political allies along on all important issues.
He said difference of opinion was the beauty of democracy and PTI was confident that he would convince the AML chief to withdraw his decision of the presidential election’s boycott. “We will settle the matter in an amicable manner,” he added.
He also said, “I complement Sheikh Sahib for what he did for the betterment of the country. I hope that we will jointly take the matter forward in a friendly manner.”
Sheikh Rashid said that there was no doubt that both the parties were allies in the May 2013 elections but AML and PTI have separate identities. AML has boycotted the upcoming presidential election. “Both parties are in consultation with each other regarding participation in the July 30 election and final decision would be taken soon,” he opined.
However, Rashid hinted that AML would review its boycott decision, saying that honouring visiting guests was a tradition of the Lal Haveli. He assured that AML would support Wajih-ud-Din in the presidential poll, if it participated in the election process.
