PTI-led coalition has 77 out of 120 seats in KP Assembly

Small parties and independent MPAs will support us: PML-N

Arrangements for the presidential polls to be held on Tuesday (today) were being finalised in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday.

The Provincial Election Commission took over the control of KP Provincial Assembly and established polling booths inside the House.

Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Justice Dost Mohammad Khan has been declared as the presiding officer.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf with 54 seats is the major party in the House of 120.

The Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) has 10 seats, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) eight and Awami Jamhoori Ittehad (AJI) five seats. The total strength of the PTI-led coalition in the Assembly is 77.

Though the JI leadership has already decided to support the PTI candidate Justice (r) Wajihud Din, the QWP and AJI have yet to make a decision regarding the presidential elections.

The PML-N leadership is in contact with QWP and AJI to gather their support for the PML-N presidential candidate.

The PML-N has 17 seats in the KP Assembly and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has 16.

The JUI-F leadership has yet to make up its mind regarding the presidential polls but is likely to support the PML-N candidate.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Awami National Party (ANP) have four members each in the provincial assembly but none of them would cast votes as both the parties have boycotted the presidential elections.

There is a possibility of majority votes going in favour of the PTI candidate Wajihud Din.

The PML-N leadership has, however, claimed to surprise its rivals in the presidential polls, saying small parties and independent members of the KP Assembly have assured the PML-N of their support for the party’s candidate.
