The Lahore High Court’s election tribunal bench in Rawalpindi on Monday disqualified Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Ayla Malik from contesting the by-elections for holding a fake degree.
The tribunal, comprising Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Mamoon, gave the decision.
Ayla was to be fielded by the PTI for by-election in NA-71 after party chairman Imran Khan vacated the seat, keeping his Rawalpindi seat.
The Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) had on July 20 declared her intermediate certificate bogus.
A probe was conducted after a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) petitioner and candidate Obaidullah Shadikhel brought Ayla’s credentials to the court’s notice.
