The Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi on Saturday handed over Taji Khokhar to the police on a three-day physical remand for his alleged involvement in the murder of a woman.
Taji Khokhar, the younger brother of Nawaz Khokhar, a former speaker of the National Assembly is allegedly involved in a number of murders and land grabbing cases but has so far managed to get a clean chit from the police.
The police nabbed him from his farmhouse for his alleged involvement in the murder of Sabira Bibi and was produced before the court. Police sought 7-day physical remand of the accused but Judge Habib-ur-Rehman granted him 3 days.
As per detrails, Taji had a land dispute with Sabira Bibi. A one-man commission comprising of Advocate Samiul Haq Satti was formed by a local court to resolve the matter. The commission invited Sabira Bibi at Dhoke Gangal near Islamabad Expressway to record her statement on August 17, 2012, where she was shot dead by gunmen.
Later, Mohammad Yaqub, the husband of the deceased, after much effort got an FIR registered with the Airport Police Station against Taji and his two sons. A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in its finding declared Taji and his sons guilty of committing murder.
Despite the JIT findings, SHO Inspector Aziz Aslam Niazi of Airport Police Station after allegedly receiving heavy bribes, declared in his report that Taji is innocent.
However, the SHO was arrested for tampering with the case file and giving a clean chit to the accused.
