The sale of unhygienic food items goes unchecked in the federal capital and its surrounding areas while the efforts by concerned authorities have proven to be insufficient.

The bakery owners are selling food items made in unhygienic conditions while restaurants are serving food in filthy utensils besides charging high rates.

Residents of Faisal Colony Golra Mor complained that no food inspector bothers to visit the surrounding areas of the capital. This has led to overcharging by owners of bakeries, general stores and restaurants along with items being prepared in unhealthy comditions.

Similarly, residents of Bhara Kahu said that selling of substandard food items has caused various abdominal and respiratory diseases but the concerned authorities have taken no notice of the situation.

They said that the District Government and Health Department officials are busy ensuring provision of hygienic foods to residents of the capital only while ignoring surrounding areas.

The residents demanded of high-ups of the district government and Health department to check prices and hygiene of food items in suburban areas too.

OPERATION AGAINST SUBSTANDARD FOOD ITEMS: The

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Amir Ahmed Ali has launched an operation against the sale of substandard and unhygienic food items in the federal capital.

The teams conducted the operation in Sector G-11 Markaz, Sector F-10 Markaz, Shehzad Market Sector I-10/1, Chaudhary Market, Abbasi Market and in Sector I-9. Samples were collected from 70 bakeries and restaurants which have been sent to laboratory for tests.
