Pakistan and the United States will try to agree on restoring strategic dialogue during the forthcoming visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry to Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry said in an interview with Radio Pakistan on Sunday.

He said strategic dialogue between the two countries was suspended after attack on Salala checkpoint in November 2011 in which 24 Pakistani soldiers were martyred.

The spokesman said five working groups were engaged in talks on various aspects of Pakistan-US relations under strategic dialogue. The Salala attack also led to suspension of the dialogue process.

“These groups will resume talks if agreed during John Kerry’s visit to Pakistan,” he said.

To a question‚ he said Afghan reconciliation process would be one of the key subjects of Kerry’s visit to Pakistan.

The FO spokesman said Pakistan supported all initiatives designed to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan.
