Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif on Sunday said the government was striving to ensure uninterrupted power supply to domestic consumers during Eid holidays across the country.
He made this assurance while addressing the participants of an iftar-cum-dinner hosted in his honour at Govt Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital Sialkot. Lawmakers, traders, industrialists and exporters were also present.
Asif inaugurated the newly-established Shahbaz Block for students of Government Khawaja Safdar Medical College Sialkot and vowed to make Pakistan a load shedding free country within three years. He said that the PML-N government had taken the burning issue of energy crisis as a challenge and government was moving in the right direction.
He said that the power thieves were behind the protests against load shedding.
He said that the PML-N government was making hectic efforts to overcome energy crisis. He said that the government had also developed an effective mechanism to overcome the power theft across the country by taking the provinces into confidence. The power theft would not be tolerated, he warned.
Asif said that only the PML-N had the capability to bring an end to prolonged and unbearable energy crisis.
He claimed that the government had achieved all targets set for up till now to overcome the energy crisis. He said that the PML-N government had managed to reduce the duration of load shedding to facilitate the people.
The minister said that the government was committed to giving maximum relief to the people, adding that the persisting energy crisis would soon become a past tale.
Later, talking to the local traders at his residence at Sialkot Cantt, Asif said the Nandipur power generation plant would produce 400 megawatts of electricity under the supervision of Chinese experts.
He said that getting rid of the energy crisis was an uphill task, as the former rulers added to the woes of the people by not producing electricity. He said the menace had perturbed everyone and ruined the national economy, adding that it would take time to end the crisis.
He urged the people to give up the unnecessary usage of electricity and lend a sharing hand to the government for ending the power load shedding. The nation should show more patience to get rid of the persisting energy crisis, he concluded.

  1. Is it not what Nawaz Sharif claim to do in first six months. Nawaz Sharif claimed to get rid of Loadshedding in first six month by paying of all circular debt due but it did not work. Now government is giving a time table of 3 years. False promises from a false leader. People have right to know what this government has achieved so far. There was so much hoopla about circular debt. Government paid it but it didn’t make any difference in load shedding. Supreme court must take a notice of that as something is not right somewhere.
