The city administration declared at least 240 ‘shabby buildings’ located in the Walled City area as dangerous and restrained people from residing in such houses to avoid any untoward incident during the monsoon season.
On the directions of the City District Government Lahore (CDGL), the Ravi Town Municipal administration (TMA) formed special teams comprising of building inspectors and civil engineers to examine and take action on such buildings located in Walled City area.
The TMA issued notices to people residing in TMA-declared unsafe structures and directed them to repair or demolish these sites.
Ravi town’s TMA Zubair Ahmad Wattoo stated that after issuing notices to the owners of these buildings, special teams had started working on the inspection of areas where the dilapidated houses had been detected.
He said that unless the Punjab government gave grants to the owners of such houses for their repair, the owners must bear the costs of the repair work.
Watoo added that in the case of TMA initiated demolishing operations against unsafe buildings; the whole expenses would be borne the owners of these buildings.
