Shaikh Zayed hospital’s gastroenterology & hepatology department organized a free screening camp, a walk and a public awareness seminar on the occasion of the World Hepatitis Day.
The seminar was aimed at providing information regarding the prevention and treatment of hepatitis to the public. A free hepatitis screening camp was also set up. Moreover, a large number of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff participated in the hepatitis awareness walk led by Shaikh Zayed hospital’s chairman and dean.
While addressing the seminar, the speakers stressed on the importance of hygiene and the adherence to sterile techniques in order to prevent hepatitis. They also said that viral hepatitis B and C were more widespread and lethal in contrast to other major diseases in Pakistan, but remained the most difficult and expensive to treat, and that this aspect had to be realised by the government and the society.
