A no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed failed on Saturday as members of the Legislative Assembly (LA) belonging to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz abstained from the assembly session.

The PM had directed his party legislatures on Friday not to become part of any move to dislodge the current AJK government.

A special session of the AJK LA was called by AJK President Sardar Yaqoob Khan to take up the no-confidence motion.

Only 17 ruling party members attended the session. Neither the movers of the no-trust move, nor the opposition parties’ members attended the session.

The movers, including Minister for Rehablitation Abdul Majid Khan and MLA Muhammad Hussain Sargalah, however claimed that they had already withdrawn the resolution on Friday.

The session was unlawful, they said, and was convened to create an impression that the no-trust motion was defeated and no new move could be initiated for the next six months as per the constitution.
