Govt slashes train fares by 45 percent

Railway Minister Saad Rafique announced a 45 percent decrease in railway fares.

Addressing a news conference on Saturday, Rafique said that the reduction in fares would be implemented on all trains except the Karakoram Express.

The minister said that the fare of the A/C Business Class had been reduced from Rs 4,200 to 3,500 while the A/C Sleeper Class from Lahore to Rawalpindi would now cost Rs 1,200 instead of 1,580.

Furthermore, he said that the fare of the A/C Sleeper Class from Lahore to Peshawar had also been brought down from Rs 2,430 to 1,400.

Rafique said that 24 new locomotives had also been added to the system.
