After surprising several German delegates with his fluency in their language the other day, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif showed his command over the Arabic language on Saturday.
He surprised the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Investment Manager Mugdi M Amin by fluently conversing in Arabic with him at the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Punjab government and a subsidiary of the World Bank, the IFC.
The agreement stated that the IFC would provide technical assistance to improve the efficiency of the general sales tax (GST) recovery system of the Punjab Revenue Authority. The IFC would not receive any charges for its technical assistance nor put any financial burden on Punjab government.
Besides broadening the registration base of the GST and minimizing the authority’s technical flaws, the IFC would also cooperate in the capacity-building of the provincial authority.
