The Lahore High Court’s election tribunal bench in Rawalpindi has declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Ayla Malik ineligible to contest the upcoming by-elections due to a fake degree.
Ayla was to be fielded as the PTI candidate for the by-polls from NA 71 after PTI Chairman Imran Khan vacated the seat while keeping his Rawalpindi seat.
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi declared her intermediate certificate bogus on July 20 as it carried the roll number of a male candidate Imdad Hussain, who too had failed the exams.
A probe was conducted after a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Obaidullah Shadikhel brought Ayla Malik’s credentials to the court’s notice and filed a petition against her.
The party membership of Ghulam Sarwar Khan, a PTI member and a member of the National Assembly was also suspended after he was found to have a fake degree.
