Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Nadeem Hassan Asif said on Friday that the authority would take relevant steps to facilitate businessmen so they could carry out business activities smoothly.

He said this while exchanging views with a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) comprising Tariq Sadiq, Munnawar Mughal, Akram Farid, Khalid Iqbal Malik, Mehmood Ahmad Warraich and Saeed Ahmad Bhatti.

The chairman said that ICCI would be taken on board on important matters of its interest and issues of business community would be resolved in consultation with the chamber. He said CDA is doing a survey and compiling data regarding non-conforming activities in industrial, commercial and residential areas. After completion of the survey, a strategy will be formulated taking ICCI on board to deal with the non-conforming use of properties.

He urged the business community to cooperate with the authority in this regard and help make Islamabad a model city. He agreed to visit ICCI after Eid ul Fitr to discuss trade and industry issues in detail.

Speaking at the occasion, ICCI President Zafar Bakhtawari highlighted issues creating hurdles in promoting trade and industrial activities in the city. He said that the case of ICCI representation in CDA board has reached the standing committees of the parliament and its chairman should play his role in expediting the matter.

He remarked that establishment of a new industrial estate in the capital, allocation of a cricket ground to ICCI and allocation of a plot to set up a school by ICCI are long standing issues and these matters should be resolved on urgent basis. He also urged that CDA should allow change of trade which would help in improving investment and business activities. “CDA allocated trades 40 years ago, which are not meeting the present day requirements and should be revised,” he added.

The delegation members also highlighted different issues for remedial measures. They said CDA should allow multi-bifurcation of adjacent industrial plots, which will help in promoting industry and improving revenue generation of CDA.
