Various public sector organisations along with the district government observed Anti-Dengue Day on Saturday.

The district administration arranged a dengue awareness walk headed by Punjab Health Minister Tahir Khalil Sindhu and District Coordination Officer Naseem Sadiq from the Town Hall to the GPO Chowk. A large number of CDGL officers and people from different walks of life also attended the walk. The participants chanted slogans against dengue and showed their firm commitment to eliminate dengue from their province.

Sindhu and Sadiq distributed pamphlets among commuters near the GPO Chowk. They told reporters that the district administration had been following provincial chief minister’s vision of eliminating dengue larva.

“All possible steps are being taken to eliminate dengue. Teams are active and the LWMC and WASA are on alert to remove any standing rain water which is a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes,” they added.

Furthermore, a special cleanliness day was observed in all the offices and premises of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on the directives of LDA Director General Ahad Khan Cheema. The LDA adopted comprehensive measures for eradicating the chances of the presence of dengue larva in and around the LDA buildings. Debris and junk was removed, water accumulated in different parts was dried and an insecticide spray was sprayed to counter the spread of dengue.

Awareness material regarding the causes and prevention of dengue was also distributed among LDA employees at this occasion.

Likewise, the Lahore University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) observed the dengue eradication day by starting an anti-dengue campaign in the university campus on the directions of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha. The Dengue Control Committee led by Dr Kamran Ashraf arranged various activities including a walk on the campus. About 50 samples of water were collected from suspected dengue sites on the campus and checked in a lab, but no trace of dengue larva was found.

The dengue awareness walk started from the main building of the UVAS, took a round of the campus and ended at the main gate. A seminar was also arranged on this occasion in which experts stressed on dengue preventive measures.

Pasha stressed on collective and timely efforts to avoid the spread of dengue, adding that cleanliness would be ensured on the campus as well as the residential areas, so that dengue larva would find no breeding place on the campus.
