The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has said that the Supreme Court’s order for holding of the presidential election on July 30 is an attempt to weaken the federation and an attack on the democratic process.

In a statement issued here on Friday, The LHCBA expressed great concerns over the presidential election on July 30 and said the Supreme Court’s order for holding of the presidential elections on 30th without hearing other candidates was a violation of the due process of law and fair play.

LHCBA President Abid Saqi, Vice President Ch Ghulam Sarwar Nihung, Secretary M Baleegh-uz-Zaman and Finance Secretary Usman Sher Gondal announced to support the decision of Senator Raza Rabbani for boycotting the presidential elections 2013.

The Election Commission of Pakistan was responsible for serious violation of a constitutional provision which may justifiably be seen as abrogation of the constitution, the Bar commented.

They said still worse was the assumption of Election Commission’s power by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. By transgressing its jurisdiction, the Supreme Court had provided another occasion to its critics to be seen as partisan, the office-bearers said.
