Citizens staged a protest against prolonged and unannounced load shedding and ransacked the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) office on Friday.
A large number of protesters blocked the Garden Road, raised slogans against the government and burnt tyres. They also set MEPCO office records on fire.
Upon receiving information, the rescue teams arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.
Punjab is hit with the worst electricity load shedding this year. Urban areas are facing 16 to 18 hours of power outages and rural areas remain without electricity for 18 to 20 hours every day.
According to MEPCO, the power deficit had reached 1,900 megawatts in 13 districts of the MEPCO region.
