Frontier Reserve Police’s Senior Deputy Commandant Gul Wali Khan was seriously injured while two other personnel were killed in an attack at Peshawar’s Gulbahar on Thursday.
Superintendent City Ismael Khan informed the media that Gul’s vehicle was ambushed en route to his office by three miscreants on a motorcycle.
Two of them got off the bike and sprayed bullets on the vehicle killing the driver on the spot. Gul’s bodyguard put up some resistance but was shot and succumbed to his injuries later that day. Wali also sustained bullet injuries but his condition stabalised.
Soon after attack the Peshawar police launched a targeted search operation in the area, arresting and detaining several suspects. Ismael seemed hopeful of netting out the miscreants involved in the attack.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak chaired a high-level emergency meeting, attended by high-ranking police officers, in which the frequent attacks on police personnel and suggestions for combating this growing trend of violence in and around Peshawar were discussed. Khattak issued certain directives for maintaining the law and order situation of KP.
