Following the criticism of many opposition parties for issuing a revised schedule for the presidential elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday announced that the revised schedule was in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court.

Some political parties and presidential candidates said the ECP’s revised schedule of the presidential poll had deprived them of their right to properly run their election campaign, as enough time had not been given to them for canvassing for votes.

The ECP clarified that the issuance of the revised schedule was in compliance with the order of the apex court and anybody seeking a review of that order may approach the apex court in accordance with law,” a press release issued by the ECP stated.

The revised schedule stated that the presidential elections would be held on July 30 instead of August 6. Consequently, a major opposition party, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) strongly criticized the Supreme Court’s judgment saying that latter decided the matter without listening to the PPP’s presidential candidate Raza Rabbani who argued that the decision would deprive him of his right to campaign across Pakistan.
