25 filtration plants supplying contaminated water

After the revelation that 25 of 37 filtration plants in the capital are supplying contaminated water, a sense of distrust is prevailing among the residents.
The residents, who used to come to the filtration plants to fetch water, now avoid coming to the filtration plants.
The residents said that they were unaware about the purity of the water as they trusted the Capital Development Authority. They said that they used to come to filtration plants on vehicles to fetch ‘potable’ water but they did not know that the CDA was playing with their health. They also said that they could not trust the civic authority about the supply of potable water at least.
According to a survey, lower middle and lower class have started using water after boiling it at their homes, while the upper middle class has installed water purification systems at their houses.
According to the CDA, the civic authority had given the contract of changing filters and keeping cleanliness of the filtration plants to a private company.
The Pakistan Council of Research has issued a report that most of the filtration plants have been providing contaminated water to the residents as filters of the plants have not been changed for long. The report revealed that the unclean water might spread abdominal and skin diseases including hepatitis A and E, gastroenteritis, diarrhea, typhoid and other diseases. The report proposed that the only way to ensure clean and hygienic water to the residents is if the CDA officials add chlorine and anti-bacteria chemicals in the water on filtration plants on weekly basis.
