Ready-made or tailor-made?

With the Eid ul Fitr approaching a rising trend of ready-made clothes shops and boutiques have been witnessed in the twin cities.

Tailoring shops across the twin cities appear to have slowly lost ground to readymade clothing stores with the latest collections of dresses ahead of Eid.

Many tailors claimed that they are receiving fewer orders every year because of which they have been forced to continue booking new orders even in the second half of Ramadan.

Irfan Ali, a tailor at Farooqia Market in Sector F-6/1 said, “In the past people used to throng tailoring shops placing their orders in bulk. We used to close bookings within the first ten days of Ramadan but the trend has reduced significantly.”

With life getting fast paced everyday, many customers were more inclined in buying readymade clothes. According to Kaiser Abbas, a customer in Jinnah Super Market, “I always pick stuff off the shelf at readymade stores. It saves a lot of time and eliminates the hassle of visiting the tailor’s shop again and again.”

However, many tailors in Rawalpindi held a different opinion. They said that the masses were still enthusiastic about tailor made outfits. Tailor Alam Shah said,“The business is always good at this time of the year. In fact, this is the only time we make some profit compared to other months.” He said that charges for stitching have increased because of Eid as they have to put in extra effort during this time.
