Robbers of the federal capital apparently do not allow their religion to meddle with their profession. A display of such a unique behavior was witnessed at a house in Sector G-15/4 where robbers first made the residents prepare Sehri for them and then later robbed them of valuables worth Rs 3 million.
Yasir Sheikh, the house owner, reports that the incident occurred on the weekend’s night. Yasir was out for an Iftar party with his family while his brother Atif had gone to the mosque for taraweeh. As Yasir returned, he was alarmed at the sight of the robbers at his house.
Yasir says that it was around 11pm on Saturday when seven unidentified men took the members of the house as hostages and a few of them started to torture his mother and sister while the others began searching for valuables.
Yasir, who is a data processing officer in the Bureau of Statistics, narrates that the robbers gathered around gold biscuits and jewellery worth Rs1.8 million, prize bonds worth Rs 965,000, Rs200,000 cash, television, DVD and other electronic instruments.
Post midnight, as the robbers realised that Sehri time was approaching, they made the ladies of the house prepare a meal for them.
“They made sure that we dine with them and observe our fasts. They took off their masks while eating and I believe them to be middle-aged men of Pashtun origin. I can say that because they were speaking in Pashto,” says Yasir.
After the robbers had given the members of the house a good thrashing, had collected a handsome amount of money and valuables and had had a hearty meal, they comfortably left the house on their car, warning Yasir of dire consequences if he informed the police.
A FIR has been registered with the Tarnol Police, who are searching for a possible involvement of the house’s servant or a family relative in the case.
