HEC to establish Hajvery Sufism Chair

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) would be establishing a ‘Hajvery Sufism Chair’ dedicated to the renowned Saint Ali Hajveri at one of its universities.
HEC Chairperson Dr Javaid Laghari revealed this at the event of the Inter University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS), an alliance of 16 universities across the country.
The main purpose of the chair would be to undertake various academic activities for the promotion of peace, tolerance, and interfaith harmony and understanding Sufism.
Dr Laghari has instructed HEC Senior Fellow and Member Governing Board University of Health Sciences Lahore Professor Hussain Mubasshir to prepare a draft in this regard.
IUCPSS Chairperson Professor Muhammad Nizam ud din termed the announcement as a positive step and ‘need of the hour’. He extended thanks on behalf of the IUCPSS for accepting the proposal of the consortium members, and over collaborative efforts for the promotion of social sciences in the country.
Renowned columnist and writer Atta ul Haq Qasim appreciated the HEC initiative and said that it is need of hour to promote the true message of Islam which is based upon affection, mutual respect, and peace as preached by all Muslim saints in the sub-continent.
Professor Hussain Mubasshir hoped that this Sufism chair would open a new chapter of Sufi values which would lead to the formation of a role model institution followed by inculcation of peace, tolerance and brotherhood among the people of Pakistan.
Saint Ali hajvery was a great author of his time and wrote many books, including Diwan e She’r; Minhaj ud din; Al Bayan Lahal AlAyyan; Israr ul Kharq Wal Mauniyat; Behr ul Quloob, Kitab Fana Wa Baqa; Birri’ayat Be Huqooq Ullah, Kashf ul Israr, Sharah e Kalam and Kashf ul Mahjub.
He also had brilliant knowledge of the Holy Quran, Islamic history, jurisprudence and Fiqh (logic) that is testified by the treasure trove in the classic book Kashf ul Mahjub. He lived in Lahore for 21 years and died at the age of 65 in 465 A.H and is buried in Lahore.
The supreme mission of the Saint was to make the people understand the true essence of Islam. He possessed great debating skills and profoundness of thought and travelled extensively throughout the world including Tabaristan, Farghana, Azerbaijan, Tabrez, Baghdad, Balkh, Merv, Turkmenistan, Damascus, Samarkand, Eygpt, Nishapur, Hijaz, Isphahan, Khurasan and Kirman.
