In a brazen challenge to the country’s military, a bomb and gun attack on the regional office of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency in Sukkur’s Barrage Colony on Wednesday killed two government employees and wounded at least 40 while five terrorists were also killed.
At least five terrorists attacked the ISI office, located in a heavily guarded compound which also houses the Rangers office, Commissioner’s House and office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, soon after Iftar.
According to reports, an ISI official and an employee of the Commissioner House were killed in the attack.
Sources said that a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into the gate of ISI office while two others detonated explosives rigged with their bodies inside the office.
They said that a suspected bomber was arrested following the explosions, which damaged several vehicles and buildings and left a deep crater near the ISI office.
However, a Rangers spokesman said two militants blew themselves up while three were shot dead by forces. He added that several security personnel sustained injuries during the operation against attackers.
Sukkur DIG Javed Odho told reporters that the city headquarters of the ISI seemed to be the main target of the terrorists. He said the security personnel had carried out a search operation to apprehend any possible accomplices of the terrorists and the entire city had been locked down for the purpose.
It was unclear who carried out the attack, but previous such high-profile operations have always been claimed by the Taliban.
The intensity of the attack and the high-profile target unsettled the country that has long been inured to weekly bombings. It also raises questions about the new government’s aim of starting talks with militant groups.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif pledged to seek negotiations and reconciliation with militant groups who were willing to talk before he won last May’s elections. But attacks have increased since he took office and the government has yet to present a security strategy.
There should be tougher laws against terroist.Don,t put them in the prison.First catch the terroist and get the information and yhen kill him that means(Catch and Kill) so that no tertoist will dare to attack om Pakistan.Pakistan being a necular state it is pride for every muslim.I condemn todays attack on isi hqr.
Alongwith terrorists, supporter of terrorists should be hanged as well.
Chief Justice will always come to their rescue. He is interfering beyond his jurisdiction as a citizen but more so as CJ Supreme Court of Pakistan. Judges live in the same society as others but they appear to be selective when their own interests are involved and indifferent when social or national interests are involved.
It is really painful to see the humiliation the Army and ISI went through during last five years or so.It reflects poor SOPs and total lack of training to avoid such tragedies. We use to see Army Troops going out on training excersises but not during the tenure of current COAS. There is definitely something seriously wrong somewhere which allows enemy to strike at will and at most sensitive places. It would be interesting to learn what were the security arrangements in place as there are no troops in SUKKUR and nearest Cantt is few miles away. If steps had been taken when GHQ was attacked we may not have come to such pass.Let us hope the next Chief corrects the situation.
These are all inside jobs. there is no other way terrorists can so close to sensitive military and intelligence offices repeatedly. Cleanse the ranks of all extremist sympathizers. There is no other way. Get information out of them and then shoot them. We are at war for our survival – no room for due process. Take the war to these cowards.
It is now no secret that after Pakistan becoming a nuclear power, there is no chance for an all-out war as demonstrated in the past; the Kargil conflict, the Indian parliament attack and Mumbai attacks. The last two events have received a renewed limelight and there are questions as to who was the real perpetrator of these attacks. In view of the possibility of a nuclear conflict, India has already drawn the battle lines to keep Pakistan under pressure of terrorists’ attacks on its innocent civilians and military facilities to break the resolve of security agencies to fight. The media, now fully exposed to be recipient of generous funding from India, is unleashed simultaneously to attack the security agencies to establish that Pakistan’s security apparatus is not capable of defending the country. i m student of buisness, but also keep eye on country sit and i analized that behind that attacks there are those countries who want for a long to spueez the act denfender forces of the country, like army and intellegnence, and TTP is acting as enemy front man char, and they are cont their false flage operation in pakistan, the act benificiary of the damages are RAW, CIA and indian backed NDS of afghanistan, but i surprised often when our own courts and Politician cont their plan to defame and unarm our intel and army by snatching their authority of grabing these evils.
now a days its very difficult to know, who the enemy of our within us.
Hadeeqa…I sympathize with your question about who your enemy is…this is the biggest problem in Pakistan because you have many Islamist extremist who want to support anything Islamic and are so full of hate for anything western…your real enemy is the TTP Islamists who are responsible for much of the carnage…unfortunately they get moral support from radical Islamist in the JI, DPC, and other political/religious factions who fill the media with conspiracy theories blaming CIA/raw/Mossad …these are all lies…your real enemy is the TTP and brainwashed fanatics from madrasahs who support them…
Extra ordinary challenges require extra ordinary measures. The so called judicial activism, is in fact proving to be totally ineffective in handling the crisis, rather it is clearly hampering the security apparatus in undertaking their tasks. It is so sad that even after sacrificing more than 50,000 citizens we are still having people who don't consider the terrorists as our enemy. The true leadership don't do popular decisions, rather bold decisions which at times are hard, yet we have to take those. Make a policy with clear guidelines and more clear END STATE, Give liberty to the concerned depts of the state along with judiciary, the mess will be cleared shortly. As the state is very powerful provided it has the will to implement. It is now or never!!!!!!!!
I am feeling really tragic that why ISI was’nt aware of such attack on their own office. ISI the name from which the world fears but this kinda attack on their own office is really a tragic movement.

Sad, Sad and only sad .. policy makers should be attentative..
Our judicery should open his eyes ,what they are doing to stop such daring acts of terrorism..they are responsible..just take the example of terror attak on justice Baqir Raza ..the terrorist who carried out attak on him was set free by the courts …just 4 months before…so how can we get rid of terrorism if courts do not act properly…
Its only becoz of totally failure of Sindh & Federal Govt. of Pakistan.
Its a big Loss. We condemn these activities.
Policy Making is totally wrong.
Government should take strict action against these incidents.

Those who choose to side with conspiracy theories should realize that the terrorists are only focused on pushing their deadly agenda forward. They are not concerned with our failure to realize the obvious; they just continue to push their deadly agenda forward. Time after time we find the same culprits behind these attacks. We’ve just approached the midpoint in Ramadan, and these terrorists have already conducted several deadly acts of terror. The seriousness of the situation requires us to refrain from indulging in the conspiracy theories, and instead, focus our efforts against those who are looking to disrupt our peace objectives. We have full confidence in Pakistan’s ability to counter the threat posed by the extremist organizations. We are working closely with the government of Pakistan and hope to negate the common threat through mutual cooperation.
We repeat what Jen Psaki, Department of State Spokesperson, said recently: “The United States stands with the people of Pakistan in condemning such senseless and inhumane acts [recent bombings]. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wish those injured a speedy recovery.”

Can't wait for kiayani to come out of his hole and announce once again that Pakistani forces are ready and capable of handling any threats and that he is satisfied with the preparedness of the army for any incident. kiayani is the most shameless person that ever existed, even more than zardari and nawaz. Any honorable General would have resigned long ago if things like these happened on his watch. Too bad Pakistani army is led by such a coward.
u r correct dual national.i think kayani also supporting terrorism

@EDDIE
yes but whos TTP and they manage so sophesticated war against a neclear state, i know that how russian defeated by mujahideen, than mujahideen were backed by CIA and ISI, and know TTP backed by RAW CIA NDS opened clear war against pakistan and its impossable for TTP alone. why american occupied afghan is the safe heaven for TTP elements.
I started to write a list of accomplishments and failures for kiayani. Besides protecting zardari, I could not come up with any accomplishment. The list of failures is so long that I could not fit all of them in the comment box. What does kiayani get for his imcompetence? Extension in job 🙂
ISI did well. I appreciate ISI
its very simple that pakistani agencies failed to prevent this attack.. I dont understand why some of the countrymates are trying to involve the judiciary RAW CIA and TTP to defend our own failures. If our agencies were competent enough then such attacks cant happen. Its not so easy for xyz to find the locaiotions of ISI offices then arrange the exlosives then dispatch those materials to sukkur and then execute the mission… OUR agencies have all the resources at their disposal and hence its their job to stop this nonsense. the same TTP cant execute such operations in any of western countries or USA because of the control of agencies of those countries…
No one from ISI got killed…a drama done to prove ISI and Terrorists are not one..
Thanks for helpful post. I’m pleased positive this post helps me conserve many hours of browsing other comparable posts only to find what I used to be looking for. Simply I want to declare: Thank you!
