Spoiler Alert! Dexter draws closer to a thrilling ending

Anyone else completely blindsided? We don’t know what just hit us, but apparently the Dexter producers took some crazy pills before writing tonight’s final scene, and it was kind of one of the best moments ever on the cult hit series. After learning that Deb and Dexter’s father Harry had actually committed suicide because he could no longer deal with the guilt of Dexter’s Dark Passenger, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) did not miss a beat, dramatically grabbing the steering wheel of the car Dexter was driving and plunging them both into the nearest body of water.
Yes, Deb one-upped Harry by trying to kill both herself and her step-brother.
Deb is rescued by a fisherman, and then runs back into the water to save Dexter instead of letting him die.
Yes, even when your half-brother whom you fell in love with turns out to be a serial killer who inadvertantly killed your father and completely ruined your life (got all that?) you still gotta save him when he’s your boo. Dark Passenger lesson of the day, Dexter fans.
And though it isn’t shown, we are pretty sure Dexter Morgan will survive and Michael C. Hall will be back for the final episodes on the show that is named after his character.
“I wanted and want Deb to die,” Jennifer Carpenter said at Comic Con on Thursday. “As an actor, it’s because I love her. It’s a little like how Michael treats his victims: I want her to go to the bottom of the abyss instead of in my head for eight years after the show is over to wonder ‘what if?’ and I’m calling [showrunner] Scott [Buck] to write her a scene.”
