‘Sindh Government trying hard to restore Karachi’s peace’

An American Consulate General delegation led by Political Officers Keisha Toms and Conor Mcnamera visited the Sindh Minister for Prisons , Enquiries & Anti-corruption and Mines & Minerals Manzoor Wassan at his residence on Tuesday, They exchanged views of mutual interest, particularly on the issue of deteriorating law and order situation of the provincial metropolis and Interior Sindh. The American delegation offered full cooperation regarding provision of security to prisons in Sindh and to improve the over all law and order situation of the province. Wassan thanked the delegation and apprised
them about the provincial government’s efforts to secure the lives and properties of citizens and providing incentives to business community to boost up their economic activities.
It was decided in principle from both sides to continue such kind of meetings in the future. Talking with reporters, Wassan said that Sindh Government was taking keen interest to restore peace in the provincial metropolis, which was the main commercial hub of the province. He informed that the present capacity of 8, 000 prisoners being adjusted in prisons, the prisons department was being facilitated to be able to adjust more then 14, 000 prisoners in the prisons of Sindh , adding there were security problems in provincial prisons, particularly those in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur. He affirmed that a strong 16 feet wall was being built around the central prison of Karachi and police personnel deployed there would be provided with modern arms and training from abroad, to prepare them for any tough situation. Expressing full confidence in the provincial government, Wassan said that complete peace could be restored in Karachi city if all stakeholders were sincere. He also said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) would join the provincial government very soon.
