The Supreme Court has accepted for initial hearing an application filed by PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq requesting that the presidential elections be held on July 30.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, will hear the case tomorrow.
Earlier‚ the PML-N filed an application before the Supreme Court seeking a change in the date of the presidential elections to July 30. The SC was moved after the Election Commission of Pakistan refused to change the earlier set date of August 6.
The ECP had stated that it was not constitutionally possible to postpone the elections.
The government had requested the commission to reschedule the election as a number of parliamentarians had gone to Saudi Arabia for umra while many were observing aitekaf and all would come back after Eidul Fitr.
