A high level meeting was held at the office of Excise and Taxation Department and chaired by Sindh Minster for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla in property tax section on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Property Tax Director Saleem Bhutto briefed the minister regarding the recovery of arrears.
He said at least Rs 3 billion were to be paid by autonomous bodies like KMC, WAPDA, Water Board, KESC, Agha Khan Hospital, State Life, Shipyard, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation NPT, PSO, National Refinery, Pakistan Insurance Corporation, PIA, PCB, KRTC/KTC, Karachi Chamber of Commerce, RICT, Custom Club, Karachi Gymkhana, Bureau of Supply, Sindh Board of Technical Educations, Arts Council, Radio Pakistan, Liaquat National, Hamdard University and Baqai University.
The minister was informed that these institutions had defaulted on property tax.
The provincial minster said, “We will take serious action against the defaulters if they do not pay their taxes within a month’s time.”
He said that the Sindh government could also seal these organisations, even in case of delaying the property tax.
