Governor Rule in Sindh not under consideration: Nisar

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday said that the federal government will provide all possible assistance to the provincial government to maintain law and order in Karachi.
Talking to newsmen at Karachi Airport on his arrival in the city‚ Nisar said Karachi is the life line of the national economy and we cannot afford the prevailing lawlessness in the city.
The interior minister arrived in Karachi to review the performance of security agencies and hold consultation with the provincial Governor and Chief Minister.

“The purpose of my visit is to hold consultation with the Chief Minister Sindh, Governor and the civil armed forces. I will witness the ground situation myself,” Nisar said.

Interior Minister said under the 18th Constitutional Amendment‚ maintaining law and order is the provincial subject‚ however the federation will extend all possible help to the provincial administration to bring peace to Karachi. “The law and order situation must improve in Karachi, it could not be ignored since its fallout affects the economy of the entire country,” he added.

Replying to a question of possible Governor Rule in Sindh, Ch Nisar dismissed the notion as a mere rumor. “No such proposal is under consideration, however, the provincial government is solely responsible for maintaining law and order situation.”

He said the PML-N has shortlisted candidates for posts of governors and president of Pakistan.

To a query about Pakistan’s cooperation with UK in the murder case of MQM leader Imran Farooq, Nisar said that the Britain has not formally contacted Islamabad so far in this connection.

To another question‚ he said consultation process is underway within the PML-N about nomination of a Presidential candidate and possibly they would announce a final name within couple of days. Nisar said he would also hold meetings with PML-F chief Pir Pagara on nomination of presidential candidates.
