Pakistan Railways is considering restarting Twin Cities Train Service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi from October.
The project is a joint venture of Pakistan Railways and Capital Development Authority (CDA) and was launched twice in the past but failed to generate any revenue causing loss of millions of rupees. It was first started in 1992-93.
The train service will be started from Mareer Bridge Rawalpindi to 9th Avenue Seven-up Chowk Islamabad.
Work on the extension track of Margalla Station is underway and will hopefully be completed till September 30. The track will be extended to 9th Avenue and a small station will be constructed at Seven-up Chowk. The train will consist of one engine and four to five bogies.
However, social circles have expressed reservations over the proposed re-launch of this twice-flopped scheme. According to them, the scheme is aimed to pocket commissions and facilitate corruption as the route is not feasible for passengers.
