Rain plays havoc in various districts of Punjab, five die in rain related incidents

Floods in rivers and subsidiaries due to the recent heavy rains inundated several villages in western Punjab on Sunday.

According to details, the monsoon rains flooded rivers and nullahs, playing havoc in various villages of Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Kasur.

According to media reports, several areas of Sialkot, including all main city roads were submerged by rainwater and sewage.

The affected areas included ModelTown, Kutchery Road, Paris Road, Abbot Road, Jail Road, Railway Road, Mujahid Road, Shahabpura Road, Rangpura, Hajipura, Prem Nagar, Pooran Nagar, Commissioner Road, Allama Iqbal Chowk, Khadim Ali Road, Sialkot Airport Road, Hajipura Road and all surrounding residential, industrial and commercial areas including Railway Station and District Jail. All roads leading to SialkotInternationalAirport were also blocked by rainwater.

The flood water also destroyed various crops cultivated on hundreds of acres of land in these districts.

Five people, including a woman, were reported killed while many others were injured in a roof collapse and other rain related incidents.

The people of affected areas called for immediate relief efforts. They demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to direct Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to take steps on an emergency basis for the provision of temporary residence and food commodities to the affected people.
