It’s dark and humid near the Mayo Hospital where Irshad (45) patiently awaits a customer. He sweats as the murky shadows of hunger haunt him, questioning the amount of mangoes left on the cart. “I can picture my agonized kids waiting for me at home as I wait for customers. This street is usually without electricity at night. It gets difficult for customers to judge the quality of fruits they buy,” he says. Escalating prices, rising outages and plummeting quality of the fruit have puzzled the customers and roadside vendors alike.
