Property offence is on the rise in the federal capital with the city police registering a total of 893 cases during the last six months.
The police have yet to submit challan of 417 cases out of a total of 893 speaking volumes about the poor performance of the police department.
As per crime data collected from various police stations of the capital, 115 property cases were registered in January, 148 cases in February, 159 cases in March, 125 in April, 139 in May and 207 cases were registered during the month of June. Most of these cases were registered in the rural parts of the capital.
Property offence has witnessed a sharp increase in the recent years particularly during the tenure of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government. Due to increasing land prices the land mafia has become very active.
Police sources told Pakistan Today that the delay in submitting the challan is due to the police waiting for a patch-up between the warring parties to make money out of the deal. In some cases the police have been accused of patronising the land mafia.
SHO Koral Mahar Munnawar was booked a few months ago for supporting a land grabber, who occupied a piece of land at gun point. However, an FIR was registered on the directions of the higher officials of the police against the SHO who is now appointed as SHO Golra Police Station.
Sources said that corrupt officers try to get custodianship of police stations situated in rural areas, to facilitate land grabbers in property disputes while making millions.
